Thank you to the Zuidelijk Film Festival for awarding Fiego the Jury prize for Best Film. Much appreciated. Here is the Jury’s evaluation of my film.
JURY TEXT WINNER BEST FILM – FIEGO AND THE MAGIC FISH
“A beautifully crafted, hand-drawn animated film. The drawing style is enchanting, and the characters are elegantly designed. The animation is light and well-timed, filled with classic, humorous slapstick elements reminiscent of vintage cartoons.
The orchestral, Italian-inspired music adds to the rhythm and the fairytale-like atmosphere of the story, in which a humble fisherman does everything he can to give his wife all that he believes her heart desires.
But the opposite happens: in the end, he realizes that true happiness cannot be found in material wealth. Money and fame offer no real fulfillment.
A playful yet sharp retelling of an old fairytale that also feels like a critique of today’s insatiable hunger for ‘more’.
The award for Best Film goes to Joe Murray for Fiego and the Magic Fish.”
