Synopsis
An Icelandic boy find himself in a Norse tale that has gone off the rails.
A 2D animated short film, Odin and the Egg weaves strange comedy and enchantment through an epic adventure of dragons, woodlings and giants.
About the Filmmaker
Joe Murray is an artist, director and animator. His first films in the late 80’s and 90’s screened at festivals such as Annecy, Ottawa and Sundance. He reappeared on the indie animation scene in 2024 with his film Fiego and the Magic Fish, and has recently completed his latest film Odin and the Egg. He resides on a farm in Belgium with his wife and two boys where he makes films in his converted stable/studio.
Filmmakers Note
My second 2D animated film from my Belgian studio, almost 3 years in the making. I took a different approach on Odin, deciding to forego black lines and focus solely on color and contrast on my visual approach. Hand-painting almost every two frames (as well as the backgrounds). I loved bringing the family in as my two boys voiced Odin and again artistic help from my daughter Daisy.
