I have found myself lately questioning “Who came up with this rule? Who told us this is the way to be in this society? Who told us what is ‘right” or “wrong”. It’s always a human construct meant to steer us in the direction of someone elses agenda. Religion, politics, ego, status.
I have been reading books on Art Brut, and Outsider Art, and these people would be locked up in an asylum if they did not play the game by the “rules” of acceptable human behavior. Where, without any instruction or gatekeepers, would produce profound art.
We often say to ourselves, “Why am I thinking this way? Because if I don’t, I won’t be accepted (survival) I won’t make money (survival) People will think I’m crazy ( survival)
And I am not talking about the rules of not hurting each other ( crime) Sometimes we need laws for the human species to act civil to one another. And quite often , those who really want to can find ways around it.
No, I’m talking about the non-crime structures set up to keep us in line.
It all boils down to, if we don’t fit in, we are afraid we will die.
But what we don’t realize, is that we are slowly dying inside trying to play by the rules to not die physically.
When we die, we will not care. We are dead. But what I care about in this moment, is how I am living.
